Hummus is a delicious, nutritious snack, but it can be very pricey purchased at the grocery store. Once you have the ingredients on hand, hummus can be very quickly made in the food processor or blender. Serve with pita bread, veggies, crackers, tortilla chips or toast.
Hummus
2 cups canned chickpeas, drained -- save liquid
4 cloves garlic
1 teaspoon kosher salt (if using regular salt, reduce to 1/2 teaspoon)
1/4 cup tahini (ground sesame paste)
1/4 cup lemon juice (fresh is best)
6 tablespoons liquid from chickpeas
few dashes hot sauce
1 teaspoon olive oil
Place all ingredients in a food processor (or blender) and process until the hummus is a smooth paste. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
